Green Roofs and Urban Gardens
As Science Horizon, we launched the Green Roofs and Urban Gardens project in January 2024 and successfully completed it in September 2024. In partnership with the Rainforest Alliance and Kenya Resources Institute, this initiative promoted the use of green roofs and urban gardens in cities. The project aimed to combat urban heat, improve air quality, and provide fresh food for local communities, contributing to environmental sustainability and healthier urban living.
Smart Grids Project
Science Horizon is currently implementing an ongoing Smart Grids project, which started in April 2024. In partnership with Kenya Gas and SO Energies, this initiative focuses on creating advanced electricity networks that utilize digital technology to efficiently manage supply and demand. The project also integrates renewable energy sources, aiming to reduce energy waste and enhance sustainability in local communities.
Waste-to-Energy Solutions
Waste-to-Energy Solutions is an ongoing project by Science Horizon, launched in June 2024 in partnership with SO Energies and Kenya Zero Waste. This initiative converts organic waste, such as agricultural residue and food waste, into biogas or bioenergy through anaerobic digestion or gasification. The methane-rich biogas produced is used for cooking, electricity generation, and heating, promoting clean, renewable energy for local communities.
Vertical Farming, Mathare
We have successfully implemented vertical farming in the Mathare slums of Nairobi in partnership with the Kenya Horticulture Group. As Science Horizon Kenya, this initiative ran from April 2023 to October 2023, aiming to cut short hunger and promote climate-smart agricultural practices. By utilizing stacked layers and hydroponic systems, we maximized space and resources to enhance food production in this urban area. This project not only addresses food insecurity but also contributes to sustainable farming practices in the community.
